This year, 2021, despite the difficulties faced by schools during the COVID-19 pandemic, a record number of 289 teams representing 57 countries submitted a proposal for the International competition for high school students all around the world organised by CERN (Geneva, Switzerland). From the 289 applicants, 26 teams from 22 countries were shortlisted.
We are pleased to announce that the proposal of the III. Gymnasium from Split is among the top 26 applications received for the Eight edition of Beamline for Schools (BL4S). The evaluation and selection were made by a jury composed of distinguished scientists from both CERN and DESY as well as members of research advisory committees. Out of those 26 short listed teams, 2 teams will be invited to DESY in September to perform their experiments, and other shortlisted will receive a kit to build a cloud chamber and a kit to assemble an alpha particle spectrometer.
The Team of students from Split and the mentor have been guided by the prof. Mile Dželalija, the scientific leader of the element Education at the STIM REI project at the Center of Excellence for Science and Technology STIM.
